Gun

Gun is the first flood controller in the Yao–Shun–Yu cycle and also belongs to myths of self-swelling earth and transformation.

Story Context

Gun’s failure is not a disposable prelude to Yu. Blocking, self-swelling earth, Feather Mountain and transformation make him a figure through whom tradition thinks about technical judgment, political responsibility and mythic change.

Textual and Material Clues

Sources disagree on his appointment, failure, death and Yu’s birth, so no single version contains the whole tradition.
